Dr HJ Briel Inc, trading as Dr Briel & Bester.


Place of Business

The office of Dr Briel & Bester Medical Practice is situated at 34 Lategan Street, St Helena, Welkom.


Statement of Purpose

The practice provides personalised patient care with private GP services.


Registration

All patients of Dr Briel & Bester Medical Practice must register before they are able to see a GP or use any of the GP services privately. 

Patients may also be registered with another general practitioner at the same time.


Fees and Payment

We charge on the basis of time spent or are likely to spend in dealing with care and for stock and consumables used.

This may include time spent considering and researching matters, making and receiving telephone calls as well as briefing and discussing outcomes with relevant specialists.

Fees are subject to change without notice.


Payment Terms

All fees must be paid at the time of consultation. 

We accept credit/debit cards and cash. 

Payments can be made in person at reception before and after appointments (should extra stock be used). 

We will provide a receipt for all payments.


Further treatment will only be offered at the discretion of the doctor for any patients who have outstanding accounts.


Booking and Cancellation Policy

Patients are advised that in booking an appointment they are reserving the doctor's time exclusively for their treatment/consultation/advice.

We require 4 hours notice for the cancellation of any appointment to avoid incurring the full cost of the booked appointment.


Telephone Advice

Telephone advice from the doctor is offered only to registered practice members.

For new problems registered patients will be routinely advised to make an appointment to see the doctor. 

In certain circumstances the doctor may deem it appropriate to offer telephone advice for new episodes and these consultations will be chargeable depending on the 

amount of time spend and the actions taken in connection with the consultation.


Communication and Confidentiality

If patients have any preference as to the method of our communication, please inform the doctors.

We have thorough standards in the maintenance of confidentiality. 

All typing, photocopying and preparation of reports is carried out internally on the premises.


Telephonic & Electronic Prescription

Requests are frequently made for repeat prescriptions to be arranged via telephone, fax or email. 

These methods do not have protected legal status and objective research has shown that they are all liable to an increased level of error. 

We discourage the use of prescriptions emailed or faxed and a fee is applied to any prescription authorised over the telephone or communicated electronically.


Regulation

We are fully registered with the Health Professional Council of South Africa.

We are required to comply with the principles and values on which good practice is founded as laid down by the Council.
